People like Iris and Bill are the reason I choose to be a wedding photographer. Last year Brett (Iris’s daughter) was one of my favorite brides. She is just so much fun to be around, is the nicest person, and has an angelic beauty. We all became close friends, and I actually consider them to be more like family. So I was thrilled when Iris called me and asked if I could come to Greenwich Connecticut to photograph her wedding.
People that know me, and my work understand how important relationships are to what I do. My images are all about capturing emotions, fleeting moments, and pieces of life. It is much easier for me to accomplish this when there is a strong relationship between me, and the family I am shooting with. I truly believe that people cross our paths, or come into our lives at certain times for a reason. Iris, Bill, Brett, and David have all come into my life at a special time. I like to think that I came into their lives for a reason too.
There is so much love in this family and they have opened the door and welcomed me with all that love from the day we met. I look forward to a lasting relationship and can’t wait until Brett and David are calling me to photograph their children. To me this is what wedding photography/life is all about, and at times like this I really appreciate what I do for a living.
The wedding was very intimate, with about 50 of their closest friends at the Hyatt Regency. It was a treat to see a lot of the same people that were at Brett and David’s wedding again. Shooting multiple events for a family like this is like a reunion. Their friends know me and trust my work so they are comfortable in front of my camera. We have a lot of fun and it creates many new friendships that I value dearly.
I like to arrive the day before the wedding so I offered to shoot the picnic the night before, and also do an intimate session on Saturday morning. So a few hours before the wedding we went around town taking photographs at places Iris and Bill went to on their first date. The places are special to them, and they are special to me so I was delighted to be able to do this for them.
They had a wonderful brunch at their house the morning after the wedding so I put together a slide show for everyone. The images are very close to my heart and I had tears in my eyes a few times when I was putting the show together. I did a private viewing for Iris and Bill, and then we shared the show with everyone else. The response was overwhelming, and made staying up almost all night to pull it together well worth the effort. It is great to be respected and paid for what I do, but honestly, the reaction from Bill and Iris was priceless and why I do what I do.
I can’t thank you enough Iris and Bill for letting me share this special time with you, your friends, and family. A week has gone by, and I shot another great wedding yesterday but the good feelings you sent me home with are still strong. I wish you much happiness and love for many years to come.
