4 am in NYC

After The Wedding Salon, Jason Groupp invited Luke and I to play poker at his studio. We knew that Mike Colon was in the city for a bunch of photo shoots and what an avid card player he is so we gave him a call. To everyone’s delight Mike said he could make it and asked if we would be interested in doing a subway shoot after the game. He has been working with Brittany Leigh who is a student he met at Brooks when he gave a seminar there. She happened to be in the city too so he called her and asked if she was up for the shoot.
So we are all sitting in J’s studio playing cards and Russell Simmons (The godfather of hip-hop and founder of Def Jam Records) walked by looking for an art opening that was happening in J’s building. That is what I love about NYC, you never know whom, or where you are going to run into somebody.
Well we didn’t hit the streets until some time after 1 am. Mike, Luke and Jason did most of the shooting while I just provided a little security and watched everyone’s back. That alone was funny because I was dressed in all black and I’m sure a few people thought I was packin sometin under my blazer. It felt like we were doing a shoot for “The Sopranos”.
4:00 rolled around and the dogs were screaming from all the travel, the Salon, walking around the city, and standing on them all day, so we had to call it a night. Mike and Brittany went on to the subway without us (it was 1:00 by their watch) because we had to get back to the studio, download images, and get ready to head back home. We felt bad that we couldn’t hang a little longer but time just ran out.
